Twenty pallets of finished goods are ready at the factory. Goods rarely travel in one hop, and these will not: a truck to the rail terminal, a train to the port, a container across the sea, a regional warehouse and finally a van to the retailer.
The planner creates one consignment with the goods profile of the pallets, then asks MoveTheWheels for journey options. Each option is an ordered set of legs (one mode, one vehicle or service, location to location) and transfers (where the mode, vehicle or custody changes), compared by cost, time, emissions and risk. Own fleet, leased fleet and partner capacity sit on the same plan.
The planner commits one option. Capacity, a container and the people for each leg are reserved, and compliance is checked for every leg before anything moves. From that moment the goods have one identity and one record: the shipper, the forwarder, the warehouse and the retailer all watch the same timeline, from the factory gate to the final recipient's signature.
If a leg changes, the plan is re-versioned as a whole, so no leg is ever planned against a stale picture of the others.
