Empty Container Reuse Review

Compare a depot return with an export handoff while owner permission remains explicit.

These images are illustrations of the concept, not screenshots of the actual product.

Overview

The Empty Container Reuse Review concept addresses the moment after cargo has been unpacked and a dispatcher must decide what happens to the equipment next. An available empty is still an owned asset with return instructions. This illustration puts equipment details, a possible export handoff and the approval boundary beside each other so that a reuse opportunity is considered without silently discarding the original obligation.

An available-equipment table lists sample containers with owner, return depot, availability date and condition. Below it, a route comparison uses a small map and two cards to compare depot return with export handoff. Distance, estimated cost, emissions and travel time are presented as sample assumptions, not measured results. The neighboring owner-approval card shows an awaiting-approval state and the proposed next move. In the action panel, the request remains available while the move acceptance action is disabled until permission is recorded.

The design envisions an equipment decision within MoveTheWheels rather than an automatic ownership transfer or an unrestricted shared pool. The original return obligation is stated in both the approval and action panels, making that constraint hard to overlook. In this sample comparison, the export option is longer and more expensive than depot return; reuse therefore cannot be assumed to save distance, money or emissions. An operator would need the complete onward plan, current instructions and counterparty permission before choosing a move. All names, routes, dates and figures are illustrative planning data, not customer outcomes or live availability.

What this concept shows

  • Owner and return instructions
  • Route comparison cards
  • Awaiting-approval state
  • Disabled move acceptance

How it works

  1. Review equipment and return instructions.
  2. Compare the two movement proposals.
  3. Record owner permission before accepting a move.

Who it's for

  • Equipment Coordinator
  • Logistics Operations Lead

Empty Container Reuse Review

Compare a depot return with an export handoff while owner permission remains explicit.

This illustration shows Empty Container Reuse with an available-container table and three lower panels. The table includes owner, return depot, availability, condition and request actions. A route map compares depot return with export handoff, and paired cards show sample distance, cost, emissions and travel time. The center panel records an awaiting-owner-approval request. The right panel offers Request reuse while Accept move is disabled. Both panels explicitly retain the original return obligation. The displayed comparison does not demonstrate savings: the export handoff has higher sample distance and cost. These figures and organizations are invented examples.
