Freight Cost Estimate Review

Separate known cost lines, unknown charges and currency assumptions when comparing freight.

These images are illustrations of the concept, not screenshots of the actual product.

Overview

The Freight Cost Estimate Review concept addresses the difference between an attractive headline rate and the complete cost of moving cargo. A shipping manager needs to understand which services are included, where amounts came from and which charges remain uncertain. The illustration explores a line-item estimate that preserves those questions rather than turning incomplete information into an apparently final price for the entire shipment.

A sample shipment summary presents the route, ocean service, equipment, cargo and planning dates. Quote, Estimate and Actual appear as distinct tabs. In the selected estimate view, a table lists base freight, fuel, origin and destination handling, and detention with amount, currency, source and notes. The subtotal is explicitly limited to known costs. Adjacent panels describe validity, assumptions and currency conversion needs, while a warning lists examples of excluded or unknown charges. Actions invite the operator to save, copy or request a formal quote.

Within MoveTheWheels, this design would extend freight planning with a transparent estimate record instead of substituting for a carrier commitment or a customs assessment. The illustration deliberately says that missing costs are not zero and that space and equipment remain subject to availability. A currency-conversion notice is a prompt to obtain an applicable rate, not evidence that a mixed-currency total has already been calculated. All amounts, sources and dates are invented examples. The proposed experience helps a person compare scope and uncertainty before seeking a formal quote, while keeping indicative costs, accepted commercial terms and eventual actual invoices conceptually separate.

What this concept shows

  • Quote, estimate and actual tabs
  • Cost-line sources and notes
  • Unknown-cost warning
  • Validity and FX assumptions

How it works

  1. Review shipment scope and cost sources.
  2. Identify excluded costs and FX assumptions.
  3. Request a formal quote before committing.

Who it's for

  • Shipping Manager
  • Logistics Operations Lead

Freight Cost Estimate Review

Separate known cost lines, unknown charges and currency assumptions when comparing freight.

This illustration shows a Freight Cost Estimate page for a sample ocean shipment. A summary card describes route, equipment, cargo and dates above Quote, Estimate and Actual tabs. The estimate table gives each cost line an amount, currency, source and notes, followed by a subtotal of known costs. A warning calls out unknown charges, and the side panels show validity assumptions and an FX-required notice. Save estimate, Copy estimate and Request formal quote are visible actions. The footer explicitly says missing costs are not zero. Every amount is sample data rather than a binding freight quotation.
